This is something interesting on the Motif XS that Motif and Motif ES user may find interesting.

I did a little comparrison of how fast the Motif XS can load it's files (in an ALL FILE). The XS loading speed compared to the Motif ES loading time is astounding.

I saved about 100MB of sample data from and ES into an ALL FILE and then loaded back into the ES. That ES data load in it's native format took aout 4 minutes and 51 seconds.

I then loaded the same 100MB of wave data into the XS and saved an ALL FILE. THe XS loads the same size data in it's native format in about 45 seconds.

In other words, the Motif XS loads its ALL FILEs over 6 times as fast as a Motif ES does. Loading sample data, once it is in XS format is VERY fast!

More news later. I'm working on some XS demos to place on the site.

So we're talking under 8

So we're talking under 8 minutes to load a whole gig? Not too bad really. I wonder which is the bottleneck, the memory or the XS? I'll guess the XS. But still, from a loading perspective, that makes things quite usable.

Let's hope the Akai import is Good, and creating multi-samples is a breeze.

Data Loading

This is fine. However, I am not really impressed. In your test you achieved approx. 2MB per second on the XS. USB 2.0 specifies 480Mbit/s = 60MB/s. There are flash memory cards capable of transferring more than 10MB/s. Why is it so "slow"? Is it the kind of external memory you used or is there another limitation inside of the XS?

The drive I used...

So far I've just been using PNY Attache flash drives (4Gig).
My point wasn't really so much as look how fast it is in the world of data loading...it was look how much faster it is than the Motif ES, by which it is a vast improvement.
As time progresses I'll test it out with some different things and let you know what I find.
Thanks for the reply.

Saves fast, sounds Great!

Hey, great news on the loading time for sample data. This will open the instrument to all manner of uses now that it's more practical.

Thanks for that!

loading speed

any improvement on the loading speed from the ES will be a great improvement. The ES wasn't too bad, a lot of people have been moaning about it, but sometimes it was a drag. 6 times faster if that's official is very good news

good test

Thank you Tony for this "speed test".
