A big shout out to all you "MOTIFATED People"! This is the place where I'll be documenting my thoughts and experiences making music with the Motif/Motif ES/Motif XS and other related products.

I'm looking forward to the BLOG format. I think it will be much easier for me to communicate my thoughts clearly here, than just by posting.

I've been with Yamaha since 1994. I knew from the first synth that I bought (1983) that I was in for a lifetime of sythesizer addiction. :)

After I bought my first DX7 I knew I somehow had to get involved with Yamaha. Working for Yamaha continues to be a whirlwind of experieces, most of which I never really expected to be part of my musical life or bring me to where I am now.

I really have to credit much of my early passion for sythesizer sounds to my 8th grade music teacher, Bob Eyer in Chambersburg, PA / my mother's eclectic tastes in music-and her LP of Walter Carlos's "Switched On Bach" LP ( Man, I wore all of the grooves off of that thing!)

Hopefully those who read this blog will get to know me and my philosophies a little better and... will feel like they already know me a little when we meet up at my clinics and other events.

Stay tuned as I BLOG onwards.....

B-3/Leslie Organ Sounds,,Classic Motif 6 or Motif ES6

Hi Tony,,I've submitted replies to Dave Polich/Brad Webber, re the above (see Dave Polich Blog, Sounds, read comments below, 3/16/07)

"B's Knees vs. K Sounds B-3/Leslie sounds for Motif
Submitted by JamDawg 3 on Fri, 2007-03-16 05:52.
Hi Dave,,I've submitted previous comments, requesting recommendations/comparisons (your B's Knees Organ Voice Banks vs. K Sounds "Organimation" Organ Voice Banks), trying to add Hammond B-3/Leslie sounds to my Motif 6 keyboard..I've sampled your B's Knees and K-Sounds Organimation demo's, and in my humble opinion,it appears that the Organimation sounds seem alot fuller-more realistic..what would you recommend,,I sell/trade my Motif 6 to a Motif ES, or just keep my Motif 6, and use your B's Knees..I know that K Sounds Organimation voice banks do not work for the Motif 6; only for the Motif ES and S 90..Your thoughts and input is greatly appreciated..

Adding Organ (B-3/Leslie) sounds to Yamaha Classic Motif 6
Submitted by B Harris on Mon, 2007-02-26 23:07.
Hi Dave,,I had sent you an earlier e-mail, requesting input and recommendations re the above subject. It appears that the only organ sound bank that would work for my Yamaha Classic Motif 6 is your "B's Knees"..It's too bad that K Sounds Organimation organ sounds can't be added also,,Thanks again for your help and recommendations..B Harris,,

Tony,,could you please give me your recommendation re the above..I like my Classic Motif 6, but feel that the K-Sounds Organimation "organ" sounds are much fuller, more realistic,,Unfortunately, K Sounds "Organimation" is NOT compatible with the Classic Motif 6,,should I sell and upgrade to the Motif ES 6 or are there other sources,,Thanks,,B. Harris

sorry for the late reply

Here's my 2 cents..
you say you are not happy with the sounds you bought for your original Motif. At this point I think you need to step back and make a list of what type of organ sounds you want ( maybe a list of songs that have that sound) and what kind of control you want.
Then....go play some gear...motif ES or XS.
If Organ is really your thing and you are playing that most of the time when gigging...you are never really going to be happy if you are just playing a synth. You might want to buy a specialized instruemnt that unfortunately Yamaha does not make and if you do that....I would buy a leslie too.
If you have the money ( and muscle) to do this...youy might be happier on that path.
The obvious advantage to using the Motif ES or XS for organ is, well, no leslie...no, hmmm how would Alton Brown form the food Network put it...and no dedicated organ or "uni-tasker" keyboard.
There is still lots of tonal control on the Motif ES /XS regarding the organ sounds but even the sounds between those two are drastically different.
In the end use your best assets...your ears...listen and take not of what you like...then figure out the logistic ormoney, portability, gig rig compatability, and go from there. In the end it is "your music". The more time and effort you invest will end up paying off in the end as long as you stay true to your initial musical instincts.
Shoot me a private message if you need to talk.
I'd be happy to help.

USB COMPATS

HI TONY,

WHAT COMPATIBILITY OPTIONS DO I HAVE? i NEED A USB DEVICE TO STORE / LOAD DIGITAL FILE FROM MY ES - 8

WHERE DO I GO

WILL ANY USB HARD DRIVE SERVE MY PURPOSE?

WHO AND WHERE ARE SUPPLIERS IN THE UK?

THIS ISSUE IS A BIG DEAL HER. THANKS

DAVID LLOYD-HOWELLS

Not sure I can really help

Not sure I can really help you about wh at's avaiable in the UK, becuase I'm not.
RE: USB..compatabiity is similar to ES...as long as the device doesn't. look like a USB hub...I think you are okay. I've tried old and new USB drives and several Atache / SAndisk and the like USB stick drives. All seem to work well with the XS.
